Early Hobbs/Milner Protector lock with vanes guarding the moveable bolt stump which were introduced to defeat Goaters method of opening.
Serial number: 20751. Size: 95mm x 121mm. 6 lever. c. early 1850's.
| Here we see the emergence of the familiar Milner 6 bolt fixing block type lock. This example still retaining the Goater vanes.

The addition of the second protector patent, i.e. the nozzle protector, ment that the Goater vanes could be dispensed with as there was no longer access to the bolt stump.

Hobbs Patent Protector 9 lever gunpowder-proof lock. This lock incorporates both the anti-pressure Protector Patent and the nozzle protector patent. The lack of holes in the bolt end indicates that its post 1918.

A pair of Hobbs Patent Protector 9 lever double gated gunpowder proof locks, one left hand and one right hand from the same strongroom door. This lock also incorporates both the anti-pressure Protector Patent and the nozzle protector patent. Additionally levers 2, 4, 6 and 8 are elongated and incorporate an additional pocket which aligns to another, but fixed bolt stump. The keys, which are original, are marked with a serial number of 26606. Additionally there is a 1 stamped on the bit of the key for the left hand lock and a 2 similarly marked on the key for the right hand lock. These locks are representative of Hobbs workmanship at its finest.
